Basics

Name: Ella Louise Delany (Lou)
Age/DOB: 17 / 9-Aug
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Omnisexual

Focal
At one time her hair had been the colour of deep chestnut but currently it's a myriad of black and reds with a hint of pink (or perhaps blue if it's Caturday and then there's the blondes and greens she's been known to throw into the mix...) set in one of many interesting coiffure designs that border on the abnormal. Naturally her make up is shaded and blended to match which, oddly enough, brings out the rich brown of her eyes.

Tall she's always been but taken the fact that she has a habit of wearing boots and heels that give her anywhere between two and five inches, and a few of her more creative hairstyles, she seems like a giant most days. It accentuates her slender curves and gives her a heads up over the shorter people around her so she doesn't seem to mind she sometimes looks like an alien; especially with her almost translucent skin. (Blending with snow was one of the many reasons she decided she needed a bit of colour in her life.)

Grin/Growl
Lou has always been a little off the wall but she attributes that to haven been practically given free reign to experience life with almost no boundaries and grow into her own person. She's rarely had to censor herself, her creativity, her spontaneity while she was coming into her age, something of which got her into a lot of trouble during grade school; still does on occasion, so her energy is high and her mind is wide open to life, love, and the world around her.

However she isn't much of a wild child as the, at times, over exuberance denotes. She's actually pretty even toned and tempered and rarely, if ever, caused a ruckus...that is if you don't count the rebellion she lead in fourth grade her English teacher's vindictive workload. (Really, twenty page reports on any subject was just cruel and unusual to a fourth grader.) Though that's almost a contradictorily state since Lou's got a temper and a sharp tongue which has gotten her into more trouble than almost anything else throughout the years.

She's a very open person with very little about her she isn't willing to share but she does have tact and manners so some questions she'll just blatantly ignore, that's if she doesn't narrow her eyes and call into question the intelligence, questionable parentage, and /or sexual proclivities of the person that strayed a little to far over the line in whatever they've asked. (What? She's got a mouth on her.)

Louise has very strong opinions and doesn't have a problem defending them, but she tries very hard not to shove them into people's faces either. She values, respects, and upholds everyone's right to their own opinion and only hopes others would treat her with the same. However she knows better than to expect it. The world just isn't set up like that even if it should be. (Yeah, her opinion there.) What it means, mostly, is that she doesn't have a single, solitary problem with letting anyone interested know what she thinks. Furthermore, she won't allow anyone to suppress her opinions, her voice, her individuality either. She's strong willed and very, very stubborn like that.

Basically her whole personality boils down to her being a really friendly, if somewhat unusual, girl with a bright smile for everyone she meets and a stiff punch in the gut and a few choice, snide remarks to anyone that gets on her bad side. Really, she's not that bad a person if you give her a chance to get to know you.

Indepth
Ella Louise was welcomed into the world by Margery Ann and Fredrick Douglas Delany along with her two older brothers (Joseph Marcus and Andrew Derek) on the ninth of August in the Parkridge Hospital in Chattanooga, Tennessee. She's the first daughter and third child in the Delany family so there were a lot of firsts for the parents and some things that were just old hat by now; Ella was welcome wholeheartedly and never had a worry about ever being alone. Her brothers were three and five years older than her but not once had either of them taken to resent the fact that she was now the baby nor that she was a girl. They treated her like one of the guys, protected her from just about everything that came along until she proved she was just as capable to do that herself, and always made sure that she was included, which made their parents both proud and also amused them to no ends. (Especially when it ended up being Ella Louise that came home with the scrapes and bruises of the latest 'war' between the bullies and her brothers-she never did learn that discretion was the better part of valor.)

When she turned six her mother announced that another little Delany was coming into the world and several months later Carolyn June came into the world and the household. Ella took it upon herself to be to June-bug what Joe and Andy were to her and from the moment the baby settled into her room (the house wasn't huge so they had to share rooms until the day Ella left) to the present, that's exactly what she set out to be/do. The only problem with that? When June-bug turned eight and decided that dresses and boys were more important than going out into the backyard and digging for worms. The sisters were decidedly different and often clashed when it came to certain aspects of their lifestyle choices but they honestly loved each other no matter how much they bickered.

When Lou turned twelve she decided that she was tired of being singled out and picked on just because she preferred to wear pants and baggy tee-shirts and kept her hair relatively short. She was a tomboy and damned happy about it but the teasing became to much to bear at one point so in came the blue hair dye she secretly bought at a downtown salon, the hastily thrown together layered skirt and artfully slashed shirts (of course she always wore a tank top underneath so that nothing inappropriate would show through the tears). Her mother had been, at first, horrified and her father laughed for three days straight, but they let her express herself...and she never looked back again.

It wasn't until she was fifteen that she was faced with the biggest potential tragedy in her life - junior prom - that had lead her to a startling conclusion. Rodney McNally had asked her out and she'd immediately agreed because who in their right mind would turn down the pretty, pretty boy with copper hair and a IQ that bordered on the obscene?! (Oh yeah, she just might have been a little infatuated. Maybe.) She really wanted to go with LeAnn McNally instead. All long legs and blue eyes...and a beautifully shaped mouth that had been made for kissing. The real problem? She wanted them both and that scared the holy hell out of her. So much so that she ended up flaking out on Rodney and hiding in her room for two solid days, crying and abusing her poor journal (the notebook kind because good GOD if she'd posted any of this on the net then she'd be in real trouble). It was on the third day of her self-imposed exile, and subsequent absence from school, that her mother confronted her. Ella had spilled everything and cried into her Momma's shoulder, telling the woman about her every want and need, her feelings towards both the opposite sex and her own gender, and how sometimes the lines really blurred for her, in her dreams until her throat ached her there were no more tears, just weary resignation and absolute bone-deep fear.

The Delany's tried to be supportive, they really did, but it was apparent that a middle class family living in a southern metropolis, no matter how diverse it had slowly started to become, just couldn't stand up against the social and political stigma and let Ella be who she truly was. At least not safely. They'd tried for nearly two years but the prejudice and oppression that was rampant drove both Fredrick and his wife to nearly their wits end because they knew, knew, that their daughter would not have a chance here in Tennessee. There was no way Ella could be the woman she was growing into and love as freely as everyone else. If she stayed she'd be forced to take drugs and whatever else the government felt was needed in order to suppress her nature. None of them wanted that. Ever.

Salvation, to them, came in the form of an Academy far from home and the promise of choice.

Choice.

A basic human right. Yeah, Ella wanted that.

Goodbye Tennessee. Hello Missouri.
